David Warner celebrated his 100th Twenty20 International in style, blasting a quickfire 70 off 36 balls to power Australia to a formidable total of 213-7 against the West Indies in the first match of the three-match series on Friday.

Australia wasted no time in setting the tone, amassing 77 runs in the powerplay. Warner, the star of the show, took charge from the outset, particularly punishing Jason Holder's opening over with five boundaries in his first ten deliveries.

Reaching his 25th T20 half-century off just 22 balls, Warner sent a strong message to selectors about his form and intent ahead of the upcoming World Cup. His innings, laced with 12 fours and a six, was unfortunately cut short when he gloved a slower delivery from Alzarri Joseph to the keeper.

Opening partner Josh Inglis contributed a valuable 39 runs off 25 balls before falling to Holder. Mitchell Marsh, despite battling a recent Covid infection, showed his fighting spirit with a big six off Andre Russell before departing for 16.

A middle-order wobble saw Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell dismissed cheaply, but Tim David came to the rescue with a late flourish, smashing an unbeaten 37 off 17 balls to propel Australia to a competitive total.

With key players like Travis Head and Steve Smith rested for the series, Australia showcased their batting depth. Warner's milestone innings was a major highlight, underlining his continued relevance and potential impact in upcoming tournaments.

The West Indies will need to bat exceptionally well to chase down this challenging target and level the series.
