Beirut, Oct 11 (V7N)- The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has accused the Israeli army of launching an intentional attack on their peacekeeping forces stationed in Lebanon. In a statement released on Thursday, UNIFIL reported that Israeli soldiers opened fire on a watchtower manned by their peacekeepers during the night, resulting in injuries to several members. This incident was reported by Al Jazeera .
UNIFIL condemned the attack, calling it a blatant violation of international law. The peacekeeping organization, which has been stationed in Lebanon since 1978 to maintain security along the Israeli-Lebanese border , expressed serious concerns over the deliberate nature of the assault.
The international community, including countries like the United States, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and France , has strongly criticized Israel's actions. Several nations expressed their disapproval of the Israeli military's behavior, with calls for accountability and the protection of peacekeepers who serve in conflict zones.
Currently, around 10,000 UN peacekeepers from different countries are part of the UNIFIL mission, which is tasked with ensuring peace and security in regions of conflict across the world. The latest attack has raised serious concerns about the safety of these international peacekeeping efforts.
