Police officials claimed that on Saturday night in the northwest region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, three people—including a policeman—were slain after some unidentified miscreants opened fire on their car.

The sources further stated that the police officer, who was a part of the protection squad of the interim chief minister of the province, was slain in the Malakand region of the province along with two of his relatives.

The family's two injured children were taken to a local hospital after suffering gun-related injuries, according to the sources.

The incident has not yet been attributed to any group.

For inquiry, the area had been roped off.
As per the reports, the police have declared the attack as a target killing event based on their early investigation, since the dead had no personal grudges against anybody in the vicinity.
