WASHINGTON D.C, Nov 19 (V7N) U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced Monday that he is nominating former Wisconsin Representative and Fox Business News host Sean Duffy to serve as the next transportation secretary. If confirmed, Duffy will oversee transportation policies, including aviation, rail, automotive, transit, and infrastructure, at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), which manages a budget of about $110 billion. He will also have authority over significant funding from the Biden administration's 2021 $1 trillion infrastructure law, which includes initiatives for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

In a social media post, Duffy expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I’m eager to help you usher in a new golden age of transportation." Trump emphasized that Duffy's leadership would focus on "Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness and Beauty" while rebuilding the nation's infrastructure. Duffy will be tasked with tackling a range of transportation challenges, from rising U.S. traffic deaths to ongoing safety concerns with self-driving cars and planes. Additionally, Duffy will be responsible for the continued oversight of Boeing, managing aviation passenger rights, and handling the complexities of high-speed rail and Amtrak projects.

One of Duffy's primary tasks will involve addressing the Trump administration's intention to reverse the Biden administration's vehicle emissions regulations, which aim to reduce tailpipe emissions by 50% by 2032. He will also face pressure to manage the burgeoning EV industry while overseeing key projects in aviation, rail, and highway infrastructure.
