Oslo, Nov 20 (V7N)- Marius Borg Hoiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested on charges of rape, according to a report by CNN. The arrest took place on Monday night, local time.
Norwegian police allege that Borg Hoiby violated criminal laws by engaging in sexual activity with a person who was unconscious or otherwise unable to defend themselves. The 20-year-old victim, represented by lawyer Hege Solomon, stated that she met Borg Hoiby for the first time on the day of the incident and had no prior acquaintance with him.
Authorities have further clarified that the alleged conduct occurred in a manner that incapacitated the victim, removing any opportunity for resistance or self-defense.Borg Hoiby has denied the charges through his lawyer, Øyvind Bratrian, who issued a statement to Norwegian state broadcaster NRK.
Marius Borg Hoiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship. Crown Princess Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, and the couple has two other children. Borg Hoiby has not held any official royal duties but is closely associated with Norway's royal family.
The case is now under active investigation, with both the defense and prosecution preparing for what could be a highly publicized legal battle. The Norwegian royal family has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
This arrest brings significant attention to the Norwegian royal family, raising questions about how the monarchy will navigate this deeply personal and public legal challenge.
