Liaquat Ali Chatta, the former commissioner and bureaucrat of Rawalpindi, has accepted the responsibility of vote rigging in the election of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He also surrendered to the police by resigning from his post. In a press conference on Saturday (February 17), he said that there was vote fraud in the last February 8 elections.

Chata also alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice were involved in rigging. This official even admitted to be involved in that crime. After that, his office was closed by the administration. He mentioned only irregularities and delay in declaration of results as very few.

Chata says backstabbing the country does not let me sleep. I should be punished for the wrong I have done and others who are involved in this wrong should also be punished.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has completely denied Liaquat Ali Chata's statement. According to the Election Commission, the person who made the statement is neither the DRO nor the presiding officer of the election department. It is also mentioned by the Election Commission that a bureaucrat has no direct influence in the conduct of elections.

Mir Amir, information minister of Punjab's caretaker government, told Geo News that there is no strong evidence for Chata's allegations. He even alleged that he started this controversy to start his political career after retirement.

It is to be noted that in addition to the National Assembly elections of Pakistan on February 8, elections were held in 4 provincial assemblies of the country. Since the elections, many complications have arisen in the formation of the government in the country.

In the absence of a single majority, various parties continue to engage in dialogue and negotiation with each other to form coalitions. Some parties also alleged that the election was not fair. Mobile phone and internet services were also suspended in the country on the day of polling which resulted in delay in declaration of results after polling.
