Tehran, Jan 18 (V7N) — Two judges were shot dead at the Supreme Court in the Iranian capital Tehran on Saturday. The assailant, whose identity has not been disclosed, took his own life immediately after the attack, the Iranian judicial media outlet Mizan reported.

In addition to the fatalities, another individual sustained injuries during the attack, according to reports from Voice of America, citing Iranian state media. The deceased judges, Ali Razini and Mohammad Moghisheh, were both prominent figures handling cases related to terrorism, crime, and national security.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, initial reports suggest that the assailant was not connected to any ongoing Supreme Court cases. Iranian authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Judge Mohammad Moghisheh had previously been sanctioned by the US Treasury Department in 2019, with allegations of judicial misconduct and rights violations. Iran had denied these claims at the time.

Judge Ali Razini, a prominent judicial figure, had also survived a previous assassination attempt in 1998 when a magnetic bomb was planted in his car.

This shocking attack has raised concerns about security at Iran’s highest judicial institution, as investigations continue to uncover the motives and background of the assailant.
