ANAA, Jan 19, (V7N) – Yemen's Iran-backed Huthi rebels claimed responsibility for an attack on a U.S. aircraft carrier on Sunday and issued a stern warning against retaliatory actions during the anticipated Gaza ceasefire.
"The Yemeni Armed Forces caution enemy forces in the Red Sea about the consequences of any aggression against our country during the Gaza ceasefire," the rebels stated.
They further warned that any such actions would provoke "specific military operations without limits or red lines."
The 42-day truce in the Israel-Hamas conflict is set to commence at 0630 GMT Sunday.
The Huthis alleged they targeted the USS Harry S. Truman and other U.S. naval "warships" with drones and cruise missiles. They claimed the attack forced the aircraft carrier to vacate the area of operations.
As part of Iran's "axis of resistance," the Huthis have consistently launched missile and drone strikes against Israel since the Gaza war began in October 2023, declaring solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
In addition, the rebels have engaged in a campaign of harassment against shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, causing substantial disruption to critical trade routes.
On Friday, the Huthis warned of continued attacks if Israel failed to adhere to the ceasefire terms with Hamas.
