DUBAI, Jan 23, (V7N) - Following the recent ceasefire in Gaza, 212 bodies have been retrieved from the rubble of destroyed buildings, according to a report from Al Jazeera.
The Palestine health ministry stated that over 14,200 people, including approximately 5,000 women and children, remain unaccounted for in the war-torn region.
This crisis traces back to October 7, when a Hamas-led incursion into Israeli territory resulted in widespread casualties, abductions, and escalated regional conflict. In retaliation, Israel imposed a total blockade on Gaza and began extensive airstrikes on the enclave.
The ceasefire agreement, effective January 19, followed a mediation-led deal where Hamas agreed to release 33 hostages during the first 42 days in exchange for Israel freeing hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. This deal is seen as a critical step toward reducing immediate tensions, though the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire.
