Washington, Feb 11, (V7N) - In a recent interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump declined to endorse Vice President JD Vance as his successor to the Republican Party or the "Make America Great Again" movement, saying it’s too early to make such an endorsement.

When asked by Fox News reporter Bret Baier if Vance is his "natural successor," Trump hesitated before responding, “No, but he's very capable.” Trump’s comment came as he shifted focus back to his administration’s current work.

Vance, 40, who became the first millennial in U.S. history to hold the vice presidency, is widely viewed as a top contender for the 2028 GOP presidential race. In response to questions about his own plans for 2028, Vance said, “We’ll see what happens come 2028.”

A recent poll of GOP voters shows Vance as a leading contender, with 27% of Republicans supporting him for the 2028 nomination. Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is also considered a potential candidate, with 21% backing him in the same poll.

Other names on the 2028 GOP list include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and current Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Trump praised the capabilities of various GOP figures in the interview and said, “I think you have a lot of capable people.”

When the topic of Vance seeking Trump's support for the 2028 presidential race came up, Trump quickly shifted back to discussing the work his administration is currently focused on, calling it "the greatest opening in the history of the presidency."

Though Trump has served two terms, first in 2016 and again in 2024, he has occasionally floated the idea of seeking a third term, despite the 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to two terms. In January, Representative Andy Ogles from Tennessee proposed an amendment that would allow a president to serve three non-consecutive terms, though experts believe this is unlikely to succeed.

As political speculation about the future continues, Trump’s focus remains on his ongoing work during his second term.
