Gaza, February 11, (V7N) - Hamas has accused Israel of violating the terms of the ceasefire agreement, resulting in the suspension of the hostage release process. In a statement on Monday, February 10, the spokesperson for Hamas’ military wing, the Qassam Brigades, Abu Ubaida, declared that the group would halt the release of hostages until further notice. This announcement followed accusations against Israel for delaying the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza and targeting them with gunfire. Furthermore, Hamas claimed that Israel had obstructed the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Abu Ubaida highlighted the failure of Israel to comply with the ceasefire terms, accusing the Israeli military of causing delays for displaced Palestinians trying to return to their homes in northern Gaza. He further alleged that these individuals were shot at by Israeli forces. Hamas also expressed frustration over the limited humanitarian assistance reaching Gaza, which has been suffering from a severe shortage of food, medical supplies, and other essential goods.

Israel's Response to Hamas’ Allegations

In response, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant condemned Hamas' decision to suspend the hostage release and accused the group of breaching the ceasefire agreement. Gallant called Hamas' move a "complete violation" of the ceasefire and hostage release deal, which was meant to be a humanitarian gesture. He immediately issued instructions to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to remain on high alert in Gaza, preparing for any escalation of the situation.

The Israeli military remains prepared for any further developments, with its forces on standby in Gaza in light of the ongoing tensions. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also reacted, reassuring the families of the hostages that they had been informed of Hamas’ decision to halt the release process.

Ceasefire Agreement Under Strain

The current ceasefire agreement was initially brokered to bring relief to both sides after weeks of heavy conflict. Under the terms of the deal, hostages held by Hamas were to be released, while humanitarian aid was meant to flow into Gaza. However, the accusations from both sides about violations have cast doubt on the future of this fragile peace agreement.

Hamas’ decision to suspend the release of hostages has exacerbated the already tense situation, leading to renewed fears of escalated violence. Both parties continue to accuse each other of failing to honor their commitments, placing the ceasefire under significant strain. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, hoping for a resolution that would bring an end to the hostilities and allow for the safe return of displaced individuals and the continued flow of essential aid into Gaza.
