Delhi, Apr 26 (V7N)- In a strong statement following a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, India's Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil revealed that the Indian government is taking steps to ensure that no water from India reaches Pakistan in the future.
The minister made the announcement in a social media post after the meeting, stating that a roadmap has been prepared to address the issue, with discussions covering short-term, medium-term, and long-term solutions. According to Patil, one of the main measures includes dredging work aimed at stopping the flow of water and diverting it away from the river.
This move comes in the aftermath of a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week that killed 25 tourists and a local resident. Following the attack, diplomatic tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan. Pakistan, in response, has already imposed a ban on Indian aircraft flying through its airspace.
The Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan governs the distribution of water from the Indus River system, and Pakistan has warned that halting the flow of water would be considered an act of war, with the country threatening to take necessary countermeasures if India proceeds with this plan.
