Anchorage, Aug 16 (V7N) – The highly anticipated summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded in Anchorage, Alaska, without any formal agreement on halting the war in Ukraine. Despite the lack of a breakthrough, both leaders described the discussions as “productive” and signaled the possibility of future progress.

Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting, President Trump admitted that no consensus had been reached but insisted the talks opened a door for further negotiations. “We’ve made some headway. There’s no deal until there’s a deal, but the chances are good,” he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed a similar tone, noting that while no binding agreements were signed, the dialogue could serve as a starting point to end the Ukraine war and improve U.S.–Russia relations. He also highlighted new opportunities in trade and investment between the two countries, though he avoided specifying the exact issues where both sides had found common ground.

Both leaders confirmed that discussions touched on the possibility of a three-way summit including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, a move observers say could mark the next step in peace efforts.

This Alaska meeting was the seventh face-to-face encounter between Trump and Putin. Trump was accompanied by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff, while Putin was joined by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and senior aide Yuri Ushakov.

While the summit did not deliver an immediate ceasefire, analysts believe the emphasis on future dialogue suggests both Washington and Moscow are open to continued negotiations.
