Jeddah, Dec 10 (V7N)- Saudi Arabia’s port city Jeddah has been battered by heavy rain accompanied by intense lightning, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe disruptions in daily life.
According to reports, continuous rainfall on Tuesday (December 9) submerged numerous roads, residential areas, and public spaces across the city. Many vehicles were left underwater, causing immense difficulty for residents attempting to commute.
A report by Gulf News stated that Jeddah experienced such heavy rainfall after nearly five years. Videos shared on social media show flooded streets, submerged cars, and fast-moving rainwater sweeping through various neighborhoods.
Authorities promptly launched drainage and cleanup operations to reduce the waterlogging. The Saudi Meteorological Office has warned that more rain is expected in the coming days, urging the public to remain cautious.
Meanwhile, the Tabuk region also experienced intense rainfall, leading to a landslide that created a large crater in the middle of a road. Officials said the soil softened due to excessive rainwater, causing part of the road to collapse.
Saudi authorities reacted swiftly, closing the affected road to ensure public safety. Emergency response teams rushed to the site, assessed the situation, and confirmed that there is currently no risk of further landslides. However, residents have been advised to avoid the area until conditions stabilize.
