Dhaka, Dec 11 (V7N) — A military court in Pakistan has sentenced former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Faiz Hamid to 14 years in prison on multiple charges, including violating state secrets and interfering in political affairs.
The Pakistan Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed the verdict in an official statement on Thursday (December 11).
According to BBC reports, the verdict came at the conclusion of a 15-month tribunal conducted under Pakistan’s military laws, with proceedings beginning on August 12, 2024, in accordance with the Pakistan Army Act.
Faiz Hamid served as the director-general of ISI from 2019 to 2021, during the tenure of jailed former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan. His period in office had been widely discussed for allegations of political maneuvering and internal power struggles.
The conviction marks one of the most significant legal actions against a former ISI chief in Pakistan’s history, underscoring heightened tensions between the military establishment and political forces.
