Caracas, Feb 01 (V7N) — A United States delegation has arrived in Venezuela to hold discussions aimed at improving bilateral relations between the two countries, according to a report by CNN.

On Saturday, US Ambassador to Venezuela Laura Dogue, along with several senior officials, reached the Venezuelan capital Caracas. Ambassador Dogue confirmed the visit in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Laura Dogue is a seasoned diplomat who previously served as the US ambassador to Honduras and Nicaragua. She is also currently serving as the foreign policy adviser to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil welcomed the US delegation upon their arrival. In a statement posted on Telegram, he said the meeting was organized to develop an action plan based on the mutual interests of both countries.

According to officials, ongoing differences between Washington and Caracas are expected to be addressed through diplomatic negotiations. In her post, Ambassador Dogue stated that she and her delegation are prepared to begin formal engagement in Caracas.

The visit comes amid renewed US efforts to re-establish and expand its presence in Venezuela following the recent political changes in the country. US President Donald Trump has stated that his administration intends to take a leading role in Venezuela’s future governance and oil sector management.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told a Senate hearing that the president would guide policy from Caracas and that the United States would soon initiate steps to formally restore diplomatic relations with Venezuela.
