In the aftermath of Iran's retaliatory strikes against Israeli targets, the Lebanese-based militant group Hezbollah has escalated tensions by launching a rocket attack targeting Israeli positions in the occupied Golan Heights. No casualties or damage have been reported thus far.
According to Middle East-based media reports, the attack, carried out by Hezbollah fighters allegedly backed by Iran, occurred on Sunday morning. The targeted Israeli military bases included Nafah, Jordan, and Qila in the occupied Golan Heights. However, Hezbollah's statement did not provide details regarding the extent of damage caused by the attack.
Both Israeli and Lebanese media outlets have confirmed that there have been no casualties or significant damage resulting from the rocket assault. Reports indicate that at least 30 rockets were fired at a military outpost near the Jewish settlement of Katzrin in the Golan Heights. Sirens were also activated in surrounding areas as a precautionary measure.
Hezbollah justified the rocket attack as a response to Israel's recent airstrike on southern Lebanon. Additionally, reports suggest that Hezbollah fighters had previously targeted the Upper Galilee region in northern Israel with rockets since Saturday morning.
The recent escalation follows Israel's airstrike on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, Syria, on April 1, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals, including seven Iranian military officers. In retaliation, Iran launched a significant missile and drone attack on Israeli territory on Sunday, named "True Promise" by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The heightened tensions in the region have raised concerns about the possibility of further conflict, with fears that the United States may become involved in support of Israel. US President Joe Biden condemned the recent attacks and urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to exercise restraint in responding to Iran's actions. However, the IRGC warned the US against interfering in the conflict, threatening "decisive and remorseful" attacks on US targets in the Middle East if such interference occurs.
