Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Iran's response to the recent Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, describing it as "tactful and intelligent." The endorsement came during a phone conversation between Putin and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi on Tuesday, as reported by  PressTV.

Putin condemned the Israeli government's actions in the Iranian consulate, labeling them as "terrorist activities" that violate international standards and norms. He criticized the United States and certain Western countries for escalating tensions in the Middle East and emphasized Iran's role as a pillar of stability and security in the region.

President Raisi reaffirmed Iran's commitment to retaliating against any actions that threaten its interests, promising responses that would be "stronger and more painful" than previous measures. He asserted that Iran's response to Israel's aggression was within the bounds of international law and necessary to maintain world peace.

Putin lauded Iran's retaliatory actions as the most effective means of holding the aggressor accountable and highlighted the strategic and rational approach demonstrated by Iranian leaders. Raisi expressed gratitude to Moscow for its principled stance and constructive efforts in thwarting conspiracies orchestrated by the United States and its allies at the UN Security Council.

The recent escalation between Iran and Israel began on April 1 when Israel launched an attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, resulting in casualties, including high-ranking military officers. In response, Iran announced retaliatory measures, which were executed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ten days later.

During the retaliatory attack, the IRGC targeted Israel with a barrage of drones and missiles, causing significant damage to several Israeli airbases. Despite international pressure for restraint, Israel decided to respond to Iran's actions, heightening tensions in the Middle East.
