The government of Bangladesh has declared a day of national mourning in honor of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other government officials who perished in a tragic helicopter crash. 

A notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain was issued on Tuesday afternoon, confirming the observance of national mourning on Thursday, May 23.

In accordance with the declaration, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, all government and private buildings, as well as Bangladesh missions abroad.

The announcement also stated that special prayers would be held in all mosques across Bangladesh for the peace of the souls of the deceased. Additionally, special prayers will be organized in other religious institutions.

The fatal helicopter crash occurred on Sunday, May 19, near the Zolfa area in Iran's East Azerbaijan province, claiming the lives of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Abdollahian, and other officials. Their deaths were confirmed by Iranian state TV on Monday after the helicopter wreckage was identified.
