New Delhi, June 22, 2024- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the introduction of an e-medical visa for Bangladeshi nationals and the opening of a new Assistant High Commission in Rangpur, Bangladesh. This initiative aims to benefit residents of the north-western region of Bangladesh.

The announcement was made during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh and Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The meeting concluded with the signing of ten memorandums of cooperation and understanding in the presence of both leaders.

In a joint press conference, Modi emphasized the strong relationship between India and Bangladesh, highlighting Bangladesh as India's largest development partner. He expressed India's commitment to prioritize this relationship and wished both countries success in their upcoming Cricket World Cup (T20) match on June 22.

Modi stated that India and Bangladesh will work collaboratively to achieve mutual goals in the Pacific region, with a particular focus on enhancing business and trade through the exchange of currencies. He also mentioned that fruitful discussions took place regarding increased military assistance between the two nations.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina acknowledged the effective discussions on mutual cooperation and emphasized the beginning of a new journey towards development and progress for both countries.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to depart for Dhaka from New Delhi at 6 pm today. Her special flight left Dhaka for Delhi at 2 pm on Friday.
