Tehran, July 5, 2024 — Iran is conducting the second phase of its 14th presidential election today, with reformist leader Masoud Pezeshkian and radical candidate Saeed Jalili competing in a highly anticipated run-off.

Following last week's election, where no candidate achieved the required majority of more than 50 percent of the votes, today's voting aims to determine the next president. Pezeshkian led the first round with 10.4 million votes, while Jalili secured 9.5 million votes, placing second.

Polling stations across Iran and in various international locations are fully prepared to accommodate voters. The polls opened at 8 a.m. local time and will remain open for 10 hours, with the possibility of an extension if necessary. Iranians living abroad are also eligible to vote under the same regulations.

Political analysts predict a closely contested run-off, as both candidates have intensified their campaigns over the past week. Pezeshkian, a reformist, has gained significant support, surprising many with his first-round performance. Jalili, known for his hardline stance, remains a formidable contender.

CNN reports that voters are turning out in substantial numbers, with expectations high for a decisive outcome. The election is being closely monitored by both domestic and international observers to ensure transparency and fairness.

The final results will determine Iran's next president, succeeding the current administration and potentially shaping the country's future domestic and foreign policies.
