"The strengthening of the naval force presents itself as the most important issue in reliably defending the maritime sovereignty of the country and stepping up the war preparations at present."

As his nation intensifies "war preparations," North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited warships at a shipyard on Friday, according to state television.

Kim has proclaimed South Korea to be his nation's "principal enemy" in recent weeks, axed organizations tasked with outreach and reunification, and threatened to go to war for "even 0.001 mm" of violation.

He also praised the recent test firing of a new strategic cruise missile from a submarine, describing it as a turning point in the North's naval strength development.

According to the Korean Central News Agency, Kim stated at the Nampho Dockyard, "The strengthening of the naval force presents itself as the most important issue in reliably defending the maritime sovereignty of the country and stepping up the war preparations at present."

During a pivotal party meeting in 2021, Kim unveiled his wish list for strategic weapons, which included solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles, hypersonic warheads, and surveillance satellites.

Kim received an update on the numerous vessels being built at the Nampho shipbuilding complex, located roughly 65 kilometers southwest of Pyongyang, and the arrangements for a "new huge plan" that the governing party has allocated.

The plan's specifics were not given.

The leader "expressed expectation that the workers of the dockyard would successfully build on the world level the major warships," according to KCNA.

The Seoul military claimed at the time that North Korea's first "tactical nuclear attack submarine" launch last year did not appear to be in service.

The vessel's apparent modification from an existing diesel-electric submarine that was first developed in the 1950s has raised concerns among analysts regarding its limitations and weaknesses as a platform.
