London, Sept 25 V7N -Huw Edwards, a prominent presenter for the BBC who hosted both News at Six and the flagship News at Ten, has faced significant fallout following his legal troubles. He was the voice that announced the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 and frequently appeared in various BBC News specials.Edwards was suspended from his position at the BBC in July 2023 and was arrested four months later.
He only resigned from his role at the end of April 2024. During the period between his arrest and resignation, he remained on the BBC's payroll, earning £200,000 (approximately $264,000). The BBC, funded largely by public license fees from UK households, has requested that Edwards return this salary.Lisa Nandy, the UK's Culture Secretary, has also stated that he should repay the amount. In August, the BBC governing board condemned Edwards for pleading guilty to what they called “an appalling crime.” They noted that his actions have significantly damaged public trust in the BBC and brought disrepute to the organization.
