Dhaka, Dec 27 (V7N) — A devastating collision at the Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway claimed the lives of five people and left four others injured on Friday morning.

The accident occurred when a Bepari Paribahan bus, operating on the Dhaka-Kuakata route, rammed into a motorcycle, a microbus, and a private car waiting at the toll booth. CCTV footage of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows the bus failing to slow down, crushing the vehicles ahead and causing significant destruction.

One individual was killed instantly, trapped inside the mangled remains of the private car. According to Dewan Azad, Station Officer of the Srinagar Fire Service, four others succumbed to their injuries while being transported to Dhaka for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, as officials have yet to determine why the bus driver failed to apply the brakes upon approaching the toll plaza.

Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the deceased, and there are concerns that the death toll could rise further. Investigations are underway to ascertain the exact cause of the tragedy.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about road safety on the busy Dhaka-Mawa Expressway, particularly near toll plazas, where vehicles are required to stop or slow down.
