JHALAKATHI, March 20, (V7N) — More than fifty families in Daharshankar village of Mathbari Union, Rajapur upazila, celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday morning in line with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.

At 8 am, the Eid congregation was held at the Eidgah ground of Darus Sunnah Jame Mosque, led by Imam Md. Aminur Rahman. Over a hundred worshippers, including women praying behind a curtain, joined the prayers before exchanging Eid greetings.

Local sources said that since 2011, around 45 families in the village have observed Ramadan and Eid based on the sighting of the moon anywhere in the world. After prayers, a festive atmosphere spread through the community, with sweets and traditional foods prepared in every household.

Worshippers explained their practice as a matter of faith: “We celebrate Eid this way out of the belief that fasting and Eid can be observed based on the sighting of the moon. We want everyone to celebrate Eid together.”

Mosque president Md. Ripon Hawlader noted that while there were obstacles in the early years, the practice now continues without difficulty. Imam Aminur Rahman added: “We observe fasting and Eid every year based on the news of the new moon. In line with that, Eid prayers have been offered this year as well.”
