Dhaka, May 17 (V7N) — A devastating explosion caused by a gas line leak severely injured five members of the same family in South Anandanagar, under Badda Police Station in the capital. The incident occurred shortly after midnight, around 12:30 AM on Friday (May 16), in a rented house adjacent to Ansar Camp Bazar.

The victims—Tofazzal Hossain (45), a day laborer, his wife Mansura Begum (35), and their three daughters Tanjila (11), Mithila (7), and Tanisha (4)—suffered serious burn injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors described their condition as critical, with burn injuries ranging from 30% to 80% of their bodies.

Md. Sharif, a neighbor who accompanied the victims to the hospital, recounted that the explosion occurred when the family attempted to light a stove after the room had unknowingly filled with leaked gas. "A huge noise was heard when a match was struck. The room caught fire instantly," he said.

The explosion took place in a ground-floor unit of a three-storey rented building near Ansar Camp Bazar in Aftab Nagar’s South Anandanagar area.

Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the Burn Institute, confirmed the arrival of the five injured patients. "All of them belong to the same family. They have sustained serious burn injuries on various parts of their bodies. Emergency treatment, including initial dressing, is underway," he stated.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about gas safety and maintenance in residential areas, particularly in densely populated urban neighborhoods.
