Madaripur, July 24 (V7N) – A tragic road accident occurred on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur, where a microbus collided with a stationary covered van, resulting in the death of two individuals. In addition, ten others sustained injuries in the incident.
The accident took place early on Thursday morning near the Kutubpur Padma Railway Station on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway. The victims have been identified as 55-year-old Masud Biswas, son of Dhola Biswas from Ramchandrapur village in the Salta Thana of Faridpur District, and 26-year-old Firoza Begum, wife of Mamun Biswas from the same area. As of the latest reports, the identities of the injured have not been confirmed.
Upon receiving the news, highway police and fire service personnel quickly rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, who were subsequently transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
According to reports from the highway police and eyewitnesses, a covered van (Dhaka Metro-U 14-1704) from Khan Sons Textile Limited was stationary in the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway. At around dawn, a microbus (Dhaka Metro-Ch 13-8175), traveling at high speed, lost control and crashed into the back of the stationary van. Simultaneously, a bus from Purvasa Paribahan (Dhaka Metro-Bo 15-5320), which was coming from behind, collided with the microbus. As a result, the microbus was crushed between the bus and the covered van.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Salam of the Shibchar Highway Police Station stated, "We reached the scene immediately after local people reported the incident. Two individuals died at the scene, and the injured were sent to Dhaka for treatment. We have not yet confirmed their identities."
The Officer-in-Charge (O.C.) of Shibchar Highway Police Station, Zahirul Islam, added, "The microbus collided with the rear of the covered van, causing it to crumple. We have retrieved the damaged vehicles and the bodies from the scene, and the vehicles are currently held at the Shibchar Highway Police Station. Legal procedures are underway."
This tragic accident has drawn attention to the ongoing need for safety measures on expressways and has raised questions about traffic enforcement and driver caution.
