Barguna, Oct 2 (V7N) – The body of a fisherman who went missing while fishing in the Baleshwari River was recovered on Thursday afternoon. Siddiq, 30, son of the late Abdul Mannan of Tengra village in Patharghata Sadar Union, was found near Dhanseer in Bihangdiwip at around 3:00 p.m.
According to local sources, Siddiq had gone fishing on Wednesday night at around 1:00 a.m., taking a small boat and nets with him from Borotengra village. Despite extensive searches, he could not be located, and only his boat was later found floating in the river. On Thursday, fishermen spotted his body near Dhanseer and alerted his family and the Fire Service, who recovered the body.
The deceased had several burn-like marks on his body, leading locals to speculate that he may have died due to a lightning strike during the night. Siddiq’s father had also gone missing at sea approximately ten years ago.
Siddiq’s wife, Monira Akter, said that he had gone fishing as usual that night, and when he did not return by morning, the family searched at various locations. “Although his boat was found in the river, there was no sign of him until today,” she said.
Patharghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md. Mehedi Hasan confirmed that a joint search operation involving the Fire Service and river police had been ongoing. The body was recovered and taken for necessary legal and post-mortem procedures.
