Shibchar, Oct 14 (V7N) – Two leaders of the Shibchar Chhatra Dal were tragically killed in a road accident late Monday night near Abdullahpur Bazar in Munshiganj district. The fatal crash occurred around 11 p.m. near a passenger shed along the highway.
The deceased were identified as Roman Ahmed, Joint Convener of Shibchar Upazila Chhatra Dal, and Mujibul Haque Durjoy, a candidate for the post of President of Pachchar Union Chhatra Dal. Roman Ahmed was the son of Tota Mridha from Purba Shamaile Mridhakandi, while Mujibul Haque Durjoy was the son of Shamsul Mia from Bahadurpur village.
According to police and local sources, the two were traveling by motorcycle from Dhaka to Shibchar when a pickup truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with their vehicle. Roman Ahmed died instantly at the scene, while Durjoy, who was critically injured, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka.
The tragic news quickly spread, casting a deep pall of grief over local Chhatra Dal leaders and activists. In an official statement, the Shibchar Upazila Chhatra Dal president expressed profound sorrow, offering condolences to the bereaved families. He described the victims as “dedicated, talented, and selfless members whose deaths are an irreparable loss to the organization.”
Local residents reported that police and nearby civilians rushed to the scene immediately after the accident and rescued the injured victims. They were swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead upon arrival. The bodies were later sent to Shibchar for necessary formalities and burial arrangements.
Shibchar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md. Zahidul Islam confirmed the accident and said that the vehicle involved has been identified. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
The entire Shibchar region remains in mourning following the untimely deaths of the two young political leaders.
