Chittagong, Oct 17 (V7N) — The devastating fire that broke out at two factories inside the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (EPZ) has finally been brought under control after nearly 17 hours of relentless effort. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the fire was fully contained by early Friday morning. A total of 25 firefighting units worked tirelessly to douse the blaze, with crucial assistance from the police, Ansar, army, navy, air force, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Speaking to reporters after the fire was brought under control, a Fire Service official said,
“Our members worked cautiously to ensure their own safety. The most positive outcome is that the fire did not spread to nearby establishments, preventing further damage. This was possible due to the coordinated efforts of all forces involved.”
The Fire Service has formed a five-member investigation committee to determine the cause of the fire. The committee has been instructed to submit its report within 15 working days.
The fire initially erupted around 2 p.m. on Thursday (October 16) at Factory No. 5 of the EPZ and later spread to another facility, Jin Hong Medical. Both factories sustained significant damage, with parts of the building roof collapsing under the heat’s intensity.
