Madaripur, Oct 26 (V7N) — A passenger bus without proper fitness certification lost control and fell into a roadside pond on the Madaripur-Mostafapur inter-district road, killing one woman and injuring nearly 25 passengers.

According to police and local sources, the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday when a local bus, registration number Narshingdi JA-11-0076, traveling from Madaripur Bus Stand to Tekerhat, went off the road at Ukilbari area in Ghatmajhi Union of Madaripur Sadar Upazila and plunged into a pond.

The deceased has been identified as Amena Begum, 55, a resident of Jhikrahati village in Ghatmajhi Union. Her sudden death has left her family and local community in deep mourning. The identities of the injured passengers are yet to be confirmed by authorities.

Officer-in-Charge of Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Adel Hossain, confirmed that the bus accident caused the death of Amena Begum and injuries to several others. He added that a thorough investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken against the bus driver and any responsible parties under the prevailing traffic laws.

Authorities have urged passengers to travel only in certified vehicles and warned operators to ensure proper fitness compliance to prevent future tragedies on the inter-district road network.
