Chittagong, Oct 28 (V7N)- One person was killed when a freight train collided with a rice-laden truck at the Sagarika Rail Gate area in Chittagong early Tuesday morning. The accident occurred around 4:30 am.

According to the gatekeeper on duty, the signal had been given in accordance with railway rules, but the truck driver ignored the signal and attempted to cross the tracks at high speed, leading to the collision. However, local residents alleged negligence on the part of the gatekeeper and blamed him for the tragic incident.

Railway sources said the freight train, carrying 31 wagons, departed from Chittagong Goods Port for Kamalapur ICD at 4:10 am. The impact of the collision caused one freight coach and the engine to overturn.

The railway authorities have formed a four-member investigation committee to determine the cause of the accident.
