Rangamati, Nov 08 (V7N) — Police have recovered the body of a senior nurse, identified as Sathi Barua, 34, from the nurses’ changing room at Rangamati General Hospital on Friday afternoon. The deceased was found hanging with a scarf tied around her neck inside the emergency department’s changing room, police confirmed.

According to hospital authorities, Nurse Sathi Barua, a resident of Debashish Nagar in Rangamati town, had been suffering from illness for the past few days. She joined government service on December 15, 2016, and was the mother of two children.

Sources said she was assigned to night duty on Thursday but informed the hospital management that she was unable to work due to her physical condition. She requested six days of casual leave, which was approved, and she was asked to resume night duty at the end of the month. On Friday morning, she was admitted to Rangamati Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Later that morning, she reportedly became irritated when several colleagues came to visit her at the hospital ward. She then left the ward and went to rest inside the nurses’ changing room (Room No. 16) near the emergency department.

While on duty, senior nurse Sadhana Chakma noticed the room’s door locked from inside. After repeated knocking and no response, the lock was forced open, revealing Sathi Barua hanging from the window frame with a scarf around her neck. Police from Kotwali Police Station were immediately informed and recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, Mohammad Shahed Uddin, said the body had been sent for autopsy and that a case of unnatural death (UD) has been recorded. “Further legal action will be taken upon receiving the post-mortem report,” he added.

In a separate incident, a 13-year-old girl named Aryamita Chakma drowned while crossing a river in Ghagra under Kaukhali upazila of Rangamati district. The victim was the daughter of Shanto Chakma from Junumachhara village in Ward No. 6 of Ghagra Union.

Local residents said Aryamita slipped and drowned while bathing and attempting to cross the river. She was rescued and taken to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Rangamati General Hospital authorities have informed Kaukhali Police Station about the incident. Police said legal formalities and necessary procedures are underway.
