Jhalokathi, Nov 26 (V7N) – A woman drowned early Tuesday morning after slipping from a riverbank platform while performing ablution before Fajr prayers in the Ponabalia Union of Jhalokathi Sadar Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Marjina Begum, 58, wife of Jamal Hossain from Shilarchar in Madaripur district. She had been staying at the home of her son-in-law, Al Amin, in West Deuri to recover from a recent eye operation.
According to Al Amin, Marjina went to the riverbank at dawn for ablution when she accidentally slipped from the wooden platform and fell into the Deuri River. Family members searched for her but could not locate her immediately. Her body was later found floating in the river near the Kistakathi area.
Officer-in-Charge of Jhalokathi Sadar Police Station, Moniruzzaman, said the woman’s body was recovered and sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. An unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident.
