Rangamati, Nov 28 (V7N) — Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Kaptai and Longadu upazilas of Rangamati on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Md. Elias, 45, of Kaptai, and a teenager, Masum Al Hasan, 15, from Longadu.
The first accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on the Rangamati–Kaptai–Chattogram highway in the Sitaghat area, where a Dhaka-bound bus of Saudi Paribahan (registration number Chattogram Metro-BA 11-0679) struck Elias. He was a resident of Shilchhari area under Ward No. 5 of Wagga Union and worked as a ticket seller at the S. Alam counter in Kaptai Jetty Ghat.
According to Kaptai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kay Kislu, Elias was walking along the road when the open locker of the moving bus hit him, leaving him critically injured. Locals rushed him to the Kaptai Upazila Health Complex, but he died on the way. Dr. Ruihla Aung Marma confirmed that he was dead before arrival. Police seized the bus following the incident, but the driver, Mohammad Mahbub, fled and is currently at large. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for legal procedures.
In a separate incident, a teenage cyclist was killed in West Baitta Para of Longadu when a speeding truck (registration number Chattogram Metro-TA 12-0434) crushed him. The accident occurred around 6 p.m.
The victim, Masum Al Hasan, was the son of local resident Abdul Hannan. Witnesses said Masum was riding his bicycle along the roadside when the truck, turning recklessly at high speed, hit him, causing him to fall under the rear wheel. His uncle Hashem rescued him and took him to Longadu Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have seized the truck, and the body is being prepared for autopsy. The victim’s family is preparing to file a case. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the West Baitta Para area, and locals are urging authorities to take strict action against reckless driving.
