Ukhiya, Sep 14 (V7N) - Following a trawler capsizing in the Bay of Bengal, three bodies have washed up on the shores of Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. As of now, the authorities have not yet recovered the bodies, and their identities remain unknown. One body was found on Friday, and two more were discovered on Saturday (September 14) at Patuar Tek and Shafir Bil points in Jalia Palong Union.

Local residents reported that heavy rains over the past few days have prevented many fishing boats from safely returning to shore. Thirteen trawlers with over 500 fishermen remain unaccounted for in Cox's Bazar, and despite almost 50 hours passing, no communication has been established with them.

The missing trawlers include FB Hasan, FB Absar, FB Sabit, FB Maer Doa, FB Kaisar, FB Abdul Malek 1-2, FB Akhi, FB Tahsin, FB Babul, FB Nasir, FB Selim, FB Nazir, and FB Jony.

According to Delwar Hossain, General Secretary of the Fishing Boat Owners' Association, continuous rainfall and strong winds have affected Cox's Bazar since Wednesday. Fishermen attempting to return to shore lost control of their boats, leading many trawlers to drift away. Eight of these trawlers have since washed up at Patuar Tek in Kolatoli and Ukhiya’s Inani Point, where over 300 fishermen have been rescued.

Attempts to reach Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shamim Hossain for comment were unsuccessful, as he could not be contacted by phone.

Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanvir Hossain confirmed that bodies are continuing to wash ashore following the trawler sinking.
