Rangamati, July 15 (V7N) - On Tuesday morning, July 15, police from Kaukhali Thana in Rangamati district recovered the dismembered and bagged body of Md. Mamun (25), a poultry businessman, from Majher Para area of Kaukhali Upazila. Mamun had been missing since July 7 after being abducted from his home in Sugarmill Adarsha Gram village.
Mamun was the only son of Ali Ahmed of Sugarmill Adarsha Gram. Police arrested Mamun’s former employee and main suspect Md. Kamrul Islam (30) from Bhabaniganj, Lakshmipur district, with the help of technology. Kamrul’s wife was also detained in connection with the case.
Despite a ransom demand of Tk 10 lakh, Mamun was killed by his former employee before any payment was made. This tragic incident has caused widespread grief and concern in the local community.
According to police and local sources, Mamun disappeared on the afternoon of July 7. That night, he called his wife asking her to deliver two bank checks to a person in Ranihat market, Rangunia Upazila, Chattogram, reassuring her not to worry. Kamrul later admitted to drugging Mamun with narcotic-laced tea at his rented flat in Ranihat before killing him. Mamun’s family lost contact with him after that.
On July 8, a ransom call demanding Tk 10 lakh was made from Mamun’s number. That same day, Mamun’s wife filed a missing person report at Kaukhali police station. Following investigations, a man named Anowar (20), who received the checks, was arrested, leading police to Kamrul.
Kamrul confessed that he and his wife Sathi Akter (19) drugged, killed, and dismembered Mamun’s body, then buried the remains near his uncle’s house in Majher Para before fleeing.
Additional Superintendent of Police Jahedul Islam said Kamrul, previously Mamun’s employee and later business partner, likely committed the crime due to business disputes.
Mamun leaves behind a wife, two sons aged three and eight, and a nine-month-old daughter.
Kaukhali Police Officer-in-Charge (OC), Saiful Islam Sohag confirmed a murder case has been filed and that Kamrul will be presented in court for custody. Anowar has been sent to jail after court proceedings in Rangamati.
Senior officials, including Additional Superintendent Nadira Nur, Additional Superintendent Jahedul Islam, and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kazi Atikur Rahman, visited the crime scene.
This case serves as a reminder for business owners and society at large to remain vigilant and ensure safety.
