DHAKA, March 20, (V7N) — Bangladesh has signed its Fifth Country Programme Framework (CPF) with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the period 2026–2032, marking a major step in strengthening technical cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
The agreement was signed on March 18 in Vienna, Austria. Md. Anwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, signed on behalf of Bangladesh, while Hua Liu, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed for the IAEA.
The CPF serves as a strategic document outlining medium‑term cooperation priorities between member states and the IAEA. It identifies areas where nuclear science, technology, and technical assistance can contribute to national development goals.
Bangladesh, a member of the IAEA since 1972, has set seven priority areas under the new CPF:
Nuclear and radiation safety and security
Energy
Food and agriculture
Human health
Water and environment
Nuclear knowledge development and management
Application of radiation technology in industry
Officials said implementation of the framework will expand the peaceful use of nuclear technology in Bangladesh, supporting sustainable development across multiple sectors including health, agriculture, and energy.
This marks another milestone in Bangladesh’s long partnership with the IAEA, reinforcing its commitment to harnessing nuclear science for national progress while ensuring safety and security standards.
