Madaripur, Mar 14 (V7N) — Said Uddin Ahmed Hanjala, Member of Parliament from the Madaripur-1 constituency, has described his controversial remark about the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) as a “slip of the tongue.”
He made the clarification at a press conference at his residence on Saturday (March 14) after his earlier comments triggered widespread reactions on social media.
Hanjala said his previous statement had created an unstable situation across the country, but insisted that it did not reflect his actual intention.
“I did not mean the statement I made earlier. It was a slip of the tongue. One word came out instead of another. If you listen to the entire speech, you will understand the context,” he said.
He added that his intention was to convey that **Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would not tolerate individuals using the name of BNP to carry out injustice, oppression, or misconduct in Shibchar Upazila.
“I support the new style of politics that the Prime Minister has introduced after returning to the country. I also want politics free from domination, exploitation and oppression,” he added.
The controversy began after a speech by Hanjala at an Iftar gathering on Friday afternoon at Bahadurpur Ground in Bahadurpur Union of Shibchar went viral on social media. In one part of that speech, he said, “My rival BNP candidate told me not to challenge BNP. But if I challenge Hanjala, BNP will not be able to stay in this country.”
The remark sparked criticism and debate online, prompting the MP to issue the clarification.
