The collaborative efforts of farmers and government agencies have transformed sunflower cultivation into a thriving venture in Rangpur. As sunflower fields bloom across the landscape, the region reaps the benefits of sustainable agriculture and economic progress.

Sunflower farming in the Rangpur region has witnessed remarkable growth, thanks to the concerted efforts of the government and motivated farmers. This year, sunflower cultivation has expanded to 221 hectares, marking a significant increase of 26 hectares compared to the previous season.

Increased Cultivation Area:

Sunflower has been cultivated on 221 hectares of land, demonstrating the growing interest among farmers. The highest cultivation areas are as follows:

     - Kurigram: 108 hectares

     - Rangpur: 43 hectares

     - Gaibandha: 69 hectares

     - Nilphamari: 1 hectare

Government Incentives and Motivational Activities:

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has played a pivotal role in encouraging sunflower cultivation. Incentive programs include the distribution of fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds to farmers. These efforts aim to boost sunflower production and enhance the economic well-being of local communities.

Sunflower Overtakes Tobacco:

Sunflower's higher profitability has led farmers to switch from tobacco to this oilseed crop. Previously, tobacco was a dominant cash crop in the region due to its demand both domestically and abroad.
