According to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, a whopping 97% of the boro paddy cultivated across 453,400 hectares of land in seven districts of the Haor region has already been harvested. This significant milestone marks a major achievement in Bangladesh's agricultural sector, contributing to the country's overall rice production.

The press release highlights that across the seven districts of Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Kishoreganj, Netrokona, and Brahmanbaria, a total of 438,000 hectares of paddy have been harvested. This represents approximately 33% of the total boro paddy harvested nationwide.

The government's proactive approach to support farmers in the Haor region has played a crucial role in facilitating the successful harvest. Initiatives such as providing combined harvesters and reapers with a 70% subsidy to farmers have expedited the harvesting process, allowing ripe paddy to be swiftly collected at farmers' doorsteps.

The Department of Agricultural Extension reports that over 4,400 combined harvesters are currently operational in the Haor region, including 100 new harvesters allocated this year. Additionally, combined harvesters from other parts of the country have been deployed to assist in the boro paddy harvest, further streamlining the process.

This year, boro rice cultivation has surpassed expectations, with 50,580 hectares of land dedicated to its cultivation, exceeding the target by approximately 20,000 hectares. The ambitious target for boro rice production stands at 22.2 million tons, reflecting the government's commitment to bolstering rice production in the country.

The Agriculture Minister recently attended the Boro Rice Cutting Festival in Srimangal, Moulvibazar, underscoring the significance of boro rice in Bangladesh's food security. Emphasizing the government's support for farmers, he highlighted the provision of free seeds and fertilizers worth Tk 215 crore to enhance boro plantations.

The successful boro harvest in the Haor region not only showcases Bangladesh's agricultural prowess but also reaffirms the government's dedication to ensuring food security and fostering growth in the agricultural sector.
