450,000 people of Khulna coast have been severely affected.  Salty water entered the locality after breaking the dam.  Ponds were washed away, houses were destroyed.  Crops of 17 thousand 796 hectares including paddy, jute and vegetables have been damaged.
 
Kazi Jahangir Hossain, deputy director of the Khulna Agricultural Extension Department, told the media on Tuesday (May 28) night that there has been extensive damage to cropland due to the impact of Cyclone Remal.  A preliminary report on crop damage is prepared.  However, the monetary value of the damage has not yet been determined.  Only the affected crop area has been calculated.
 
According to Khulna Agricultural Extension Office sources, 17 thousand 796.50 hectares of land in coastal area of ​​Khulna has been affected by the storm.  Among them, 54.50 hectares of Aush paddy seedbed, 1 thousand 752.50 hectares of Aush plantation, 1 thousand 447 hectares of jute, 5 thousand 755 hectares of vegetables, 21 hectares of tomatoes, 485 hectares of sesame, 270 hectares of mung, 175  hectare of pepper, 33 hectare of ginger, 203 hectare of turmeric, 30 hectare of groundnut, 1.50 hectare of maize, 1,705 hectare of mango, 77 hectare of litchi, 118 hectare of watermelon, 310 hectare of papaya, 545  Hectares of banana, 877 hectares of betel nut, 72 hectares of sugarcane, 3,750 hectares of woven aman and 115 hectares of other crops have been affected.
