Ukhiya, July 3 (V7N) — Police in Ukhiya conducted two separate operations late Wednesday night, seizing firearms, ammunition, and a large quantity of yaba tablets. One suspect was arrested in connection with the drug recovery.
The first operation took place around 11:30 PM on July 2 in the Ghonar Para area under Palongkhali Union along the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf Highway. Led by Sub-Inspector Probal Sinha of Ukhiya Police Station, the team recovered two home-made firearms (locally known as “one-shooter guns”), two rounds of rifle bullets, five rounds of shotgun cartridges, and a package of weapons and ammunition wrapped in white polythene found near the field adjacent to M/S Lima Sanitary.
In a separate late-night operation on the same day, police raided the West Kutupalong Roadhead area and arrested one individual in possession of 20,000 yaba pills. The arrestee was identified as Wosai Wang Marma (18), son of Chaing Do Aung Marma of Reju Marmapara village in Ghumdhum Union, Naikhongchhari upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station, Mohammad Arif Hossain, confirmed the recoveries and the arrest. “A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act. Our operations against arms and drug trafficking are ongoing,” he said.
Police believe the seizures are part of broader efforts to disrupt smuggling and criminal networks operating in the Teknaf-Ukhiya corridor — a region known for its vulnerability to cross-border drug and arms trafficking due to its proximity to the Myanmar border.
