Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has announced the inclusion of 16 new products under its mandatory quality certification list, bringing the total number of certified products to 315. The decision was made during a meeting of BSTI's highest policy-making authority at its headquarters in Tejgaon on Sunday.

Among the newly covered products are electrolyte drinks (sports drinks), printed silk sarees, dishwashers, washing machines, kitchen appliances, kitchen hoods, and bed mattresses. Additionally, the list includes items such as steviol glycosides, custard powder, evaporated skim milk and vegetable fat, evaporated milks, aluminium alloy foil, wood plastic recycled composites, household electric cooking appliances, and gel ink ball pens and refills.

The meeting was chaired by Industrial Adviser and BSTI Council Chairman Adilur Rahman Khan, and attended by BSTI Council Vice Chairman Zakia Sultana, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, BSTI Director General SM Ferdous Alam, and representatives from various ministries and organizations, including the Bangladesh Safe Food Authority, FBCCI, and DCCI.

A press release stated that BSTI’s mandatory quality certification currently covers 299 products, and once the new additions are gazetted, the number will rise to 315. The expansion aims to ensure the safety and quality of a broader range of consumer goods in the market.
