Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N)– The use of polythene in supershops has officially been prohibited, and the enforcement of this ban will be regularly monitored, according to retired Brigadier General M. Sakhawat Hossain, advisor on textiles and jute. He made this statement during a customer incentive program at Unimart in Gulshan on Tuesday morning, encouraging the use of jute bags as an eco-friendly alternative to polythene.

Brigadier General Sakhawat highlighted the importance of reviving the use of jute, describing the elimination of polythene as a crucial step in environmental protection. "The golden fiber of jute was lost, but we are now making a breakthrough in protecting the environment by stopping the use of polythene," he said.

He emphasized that an increased use of jute bags would not only benefit the environment but also boost the country's economy and support farmers. "Jute bags are economical and environmentally friendly, and I urge everyone to be proactive in using them," the advisor added.

The event marks a renewed focus on promoting jute as a sustainable resource, aiming to bring back the golden era of the country’s jute industry while fostering environmental sustainability.
