Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N)- Fish and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar pointed to the involvement of extortionists as a key factor behind the rising price of eggs. Speaking at a discussion meeting on the occasion of World Egg Day at the Krishibid Institution in the capital on Friday morning, she emphasized the need to tackle the issue.

During the meeting, Adviser Akhtar highlighted the seasonal demand for eggs, noting that the need for eggs surges during the Ashwin-Kartika months when the supply of vegetables decreases. She explained that the price hike occurs as eggs pass through multiple intermediaries before reaching consumers. "We are considering ways to deliver eggs directly from producers to consumers," she added.

Farida Akhtar also addressed the role of the media , remarking that when newspapers report the egg market as "unstable," it contributes to consumer-level instability. She urged the media to handle such issues cautiously to avoid unnecessary panic.

The discussion also underscored the importance of increasing production and improving marketing systems at government farms as a means of stabilizing egg prices and making them more affordable for the general public.
