Dhaka, Nov 02 (V7N)- Debapriya Bhattacharya, a prominent fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), has recommended establishing a high-level committee to reform Bangladesh's technical education system. Speaking at a national conference on technical education's role in youth employment on Saturday, Debapriya highlighted the essential role of quality technical training in advancing future development and modernization in sectors like agriculture and services.

As the head of the committee tasked with preparing a white paper on Bangladesh's economy, he underscored the need for this new committee to tackle the ongoing technical education crisis, an issue that, he stated, surpasses the current capabilities of the Technical Education Board and the associated ministry. Debapriya proposed that the high-level committee be created within three months, commencing work within four months, and delivering a comprehensive roadmap for the next fiscal year.

He stressed that a solid technical skills foundation is crucial for Bangladesh to achieve upper-middle-income status, meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and transition from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.

The conference was co-organized by CPD and the European Union in partnership with the Citizens Platform for SDG Implementation, Bangladesh, and the Eco Social Development Organization (ESDO).
