Dhaka, Nov 23 (V7N) — The Election Reform Commission, led by Badiul Alam Majumder, has proposed several key recommendations aimed at improving Bangladesh's electoral process. Among these are direct presidential elections, ensuring no candidate is elected unopposed, banning vote returns, and enhancing transparency in the sources of campaign funding.

Majumder shared these proposals during a meeting with senior journalists and editors of electronic media held at the Election Commission building on Saturday. He noted that media professionals emphasised the importance of incorporating modern technology into the election process.

Tofail Ahmed, another member of the commission, highlighted the risks to reform efforts if elections are held earlier than scheduled. He also suggested that the commission is considering synchronising all local government elections to streamline the process.

During the discussion, editors and journalists shared insights and challenges faced in covering the last three parliamentary and local government elections. They provided feedback on the Election Commission's performance and the need for further reforms to uphold fair and transparent elections.

The commission is expected to incorporate these suggestions into its ongoing efforts to ensure a more democratic and transparent electoral process.
