Dhaka, Nov 23 (V7N) – Hasnat Abdullah, a key figure in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, called for decisive action against extortionists during a visit to New Market in Debidwar Sadar, Comilla, on Friday afternoon.

Addressing local traders, Abdullah stated, “If anyone attempts extortion in the market, tie them to a post and hand them over to the police. Debidwar will not tolerate extortionists.”

Criticism of Syndicates and Vision for Reform
Abdullah accused the current administration of enabling price syndicates and extortion over the past 16 years. “The accomplices of the fascist Hasina government have formed syndicates, raising prices and extorting money from the transportation of goods. This has caused immense suffering for ordinary citizens,” he said.

He urged traders to resist syndicates, purchase goods directly from farmers, and provide fair prices to consumers. “We are working towards building a self-reliant and fair Bangladesh. Mutual cooperation among all is essential to achieve this,” Abdullah added.

Visit to Victims’ Families
Later in the evening, Abdullah met with the families of victims, including Abdur Razzak alias Rubel, who was killed on August 4 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Debidwar. Local leaders and movement coordinators accompanied him during the visit.
