Dhaka, July 3 (V7N) — Miyazaki Katsura, Executive Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), met with Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, during her official visit to Dhaka on July 3, 2025.
This marks Ms. Miyazaki’s first visit to Bangladesh. She arrived to attend a memorial ceremony held on July 2 in honor of the seven Japanese citizens tragically killed during the 2016 Dhaka terrorist attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery. Alongside commemorating the victims, the visit also aimed to further deepen the longstanding partnership between JICA and Bangladesh.
During the meeting, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the Japanese victims and emphasized that their legacy would remain a guiding force in his government’s development initiatives. He thanked JICA for its enduring support and expressed appreciation for its involvement in key national infrastructure projects, including the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and the Moheshkhali-Matarbari Integrated Infrastructure Development Initiative (MIDI). He also highlighted the importance of JICA’s assistance in areas such as education, capacity building, and human development.
Executive Senior Vice President Miyazaki reaffirmed JICA’s strong commitment to continue working closely with Bangladesh. She noted that Bangladesh remains one of JICA’s largest development partners globally and underscored the agency’s intention to support Bangladesh’s ongoing reforms under the interim administration. She emphasized JICA’s focus on “human security” and the inclusive development of all sectors of society.
The two parties also discussed potential new areas of collaboration, particularly in the context of supporting the interim government's reform initiatives and ensuring long-term sustainable development.
